Before you select
your eBook software you must consider which format you want your eBook to be in.
Here are your main choices:
PDF Format
The Portable Document Format is so popular - and is
appropriately named - because it can be
delivered to almost, anyone, anywhere, who has a PC.
It doesn't matter whether they are using a Windows
PC or a Macintosh computer because they will still be able to read it. PDF
files are read using Adobe
Acrobat Reader, which is free for readers to download.
EPub Format
Epub is a free and open ebook standard for
formatting ebooks and became an official standard of the International
Digital Publishing Forum in September 2007, superseding the
Open eBook standard.

Format?" to find out more, and learn how to convert your ebook into ePub
format.
EXE Format
Exe ebooks were popular a decade or so ago, but
are less popular today for the risks in distributing exe. files.
Exe compilers take your pages and combine them into an executable
file which will automatically run on any Windows PC. The eBook will
usually appear similar to a browser window with links, forward and back
buttons etc. These ebooks can sometimes have fairly powerful features
built in, such as security to "turn the ebook off" after a customer requests a
refund.
Macintosh users may not be able to read these files. Some
customers may be afraid of running executable files which could be hiding
viruses.
Which Format Should You Use?
If you need the additional security and features, .exe format might be
appropriate for you. For most people, however, PDF format will be the best
format to choose for its common standard, portability, and peace of mind. |
